or councils or lords or mps, it's our future so we should be involved. the government of this country has agreed to the u.n., when it will involve young people in making decisions that affect them and their lives. october 2011, the a century ray ray-survey was conducted and the result shows 78% only -- young people feel they've never been consulted. that's only one-fifth, justifies owe a fifth of people that have in a country that prides itself and promotes equal rights for all. this isn't right. the has been a similar campaign for this in the past. sexual relationship, education, was nearly made compulsory and it was very nearly the law. unfortunately due to the general elections it was dropped. we have done this once before, and we can do it again, but this time, we can make it a reality in schools and as a part of the national curriculum, not a script to be followed but lessons to be learned for life. thank you. and think, oh, lord, not this again. i mean, it's hard for me to imagine that this would be the day that george moscone and harvey milk would want to remember each and every year. don't get me wrong. i'm deeply touched that people remember my father and i do speak for my family in this regard. we are always and every day grateful that we live in a city that does not forget. but there's just something wrong in this notion that the day we remember our lost leaders is the most violent day of their lives, which in the case of my family was the most violent day of ours. it's almost as if we're giving the senselessness of these deaths way too much respect by centering our love and passion and memory and yearning on the day the beating hearts of these two men, hearts that were so brave, so unflinching, so immensely loving so full of life that they seemed larger than life, the day those beating hearts stopped forever. because, let's get this straight, george and harvey did not die noblely. there was no opera music. there was nothing heroic. there was nothing romantic to be found in the loss

of law and just a rogue gallery of war lords, revolutionaries and violent groups of individuals that have taken advantage of that ungoverned space. and created no end of problems. so building towards greater stability and security in that region has to be our focus. i know the d.o.d. has done some work in that region. we're currently working with the ugenden army in dealing with the lord's resistance army one that has helped to destabilize the drc but we have also in the past tried to work with the drc's military training one battalion a few years back to very strong success. that battalion is considered to be able and capable but too small to make a big difference that needs to be made. so i believe there is a critical role that the d.o.d. can play in building the security capacity in the eastern drc and working with the surrounding nations like rwanda and uganda and burundi and others that are critical. so we want to explore further. and obviously a huge diplomatic element to this as well. i think it's critically important that the u.s. engage, that the u.n. engage a high level envoy to
